How Keratin Treatment Works
Technically Keratin Treatments are neither a relaxer nor a straightener, both of which use chemicals to change the texture of the hair. The stylist applies a solution which is made with active keratin, a protein akin to a component of the human hair. Using a hot iron, the stylist seals the formula onto the outer layer of the cuticle. The formula adheres to the cuticles inherently rough edges, trapping moisture, hydrating the hair, and adding a glossy veneer.
The Results
The treatment creates beautiful hair. It makes hair look shiny, sleek and healthy. It lasts approximately four months, depending how frequently the hair is washed.
Keratin Treatment Questions and Answers
Question: What is Keratin?
Answer: Keratin is a type of protein high in sulphur and the amino acid cystine, making it tough, elastic and insoluble. These qualities are fundamental to the strong structural role keratin often plays in nature. It is a main protective substance in our hair, skin and nails.
Question: What does Keratin do to hair?
Answer: Keratin is a tough substance. It's strong, protective qualities improve the hair both inside and out. The unique bipolymer ingredient is virtually a "liquid form of hair" that gently blends with hair. It brings to hair what it has been lacking to begin with, or what it has lost over the years.
Question: Can Keratin be used on damaged hair?
Answer: The small Keratin molecules penetrate the hair cortex, improving and repairing the quality of the hair from the inside. The added strength, elasticity and moisture results in a smooth, soft, shiny and straightened effect. The larger molecules coat the cuticle and protect the hair from environmental damage caused by the sun.
Question: What do you do to ensure that unpleasant fumes from the process are mitigated?
Answer: We use a "fume extractor" with a carbon filter specifically designed to remove any Keratin vapors that may be given off during the process to ensure the safety of the clients and technicians.
