Want to know how to blow dry hair like your stylist does in the salon? For some reason, many of our clients believe that hair care professionals are privy to a “magical” recipe for hair drying. They think that even with top of the line stylist recommended products and a more expensive blow dryer, they can still not achieve the same results.Well… here’s a little secret.
Learn the secret to hair drying success
With the right techniques you too can learn how to blow dry your hair! It’s not just having the finest products and the most exquisite and expensive hair styling tools. You need the proper technique to avoid being frustrated, flustered and frizzy. Different tools and products work better with different kinds of hair and, with practice, you will find the perfect recipe for your individual hair type. Take some notes, because here are a few techniques for blow drying hair to perfection, in the comfort and convenience of your own home.
Towel Dry Before Blow Drying
Let’s get started! If your desired end result is to straighten your hair or to have a naturally curly hairstyle, for all types we suggest beginning with this single step. Towel-dry the hair after washing and conditioning to be sure that no water is dripping from it. This is important because hair that is drenched and retaining water is resistant to straightening and will take longer to dry.
Protect Your Hair from the Heat
Before blow drying hair or using any type of heat, distribute a generous amount of protectant lotion or mousse throughout the hair. This will combat dryness, minimize heat damage and ultimately help retain the hair’s natural moisture. To dry hair straight, there are many hair straightening lotions, serums, sprays and other products that you can use to enhance this process and reinforce what is achieved when you blow dry hair.
For more resistant thick hair, try dividing the hair in small sections using hair clips. Then, blow dry each section using a sturdy, flat paddle brush, working through the hair from root to end. You may want to start with the back of the head first and work your way forward. For naturally curly hair, using a diffuser will help to effectively dry the hair but still retain the natural curls—and we all love girls with curls!
