Whether it’s a yoga class, a gym workout at the start of your day, or a run along the river after work, your quandary is the same: What to do with sweaty hair after the workout? When the run, workout, or yoga date happens before an event with no time to shampoo in between, the answer to that question is key to how you plan your day.
Proper Prior Preparation:
While quite a mouthful, the 3 Ps are absolutely necessary to both a successful workout and the execution of planned daily events.
- Whether you are a morning or afternoon gym enthusiast, plan to give yourself the time required to primp your hair prior to meeting at the club for lunch or an evening work event.
- Schedule your hair appointments in conjunction with your workouts; avoid your big workouts on the days immediately following your salon blowouts.
Post-Workout Hair Styles:
You should first determine how you will style your hair following your workout, and then proceed to prep your hair for the gym. Choosing a braid for the gym is ideal when ‘beach waves’ for a work function are desired, while a sleek, elegant bun can easily be achieved consecutive to wearing a ponytail to the gym.
If working out is a part of your normal routine and you are consistently faced with this “post-workout hair” dilemma, consider a shorter style. Bobs are much easier to style than longer hair subsequent to a workout.
Sweaty Hair Tips:
Sweating is inevitable, but there 2 pieces of advice that, if followed, will help:
- Always use a sweatband or a type of wrap to protect your hairline and absorb additional facial sweat.
- Don’t touch your hair. The natural grease in our fingers coupled with sweat, only adds to the accumulating grease that is being held at bay by the sweatband.
Apply Correct Products:
You might be surprised to hear that it is recommended to apply the product prior to your workout. A celebrity hairstylist commented, “You should use a dry shampoo on your roots before your workout…It prevents excess moisture from saturating your whole head with sweat.” Following your workout, apply dry shampoo and blow-dry; use the cool setting on your hairdryer in order to not increase the sweat already present. Blow drying your hair will smooth any creases from a sweatband or ponytail.
And Voilà! Add a touch of makeup and you are ready to go.
